Base painting for the vintage movie poster ''The Maltese Falcon'', a pre-Code crime film released in 1931, directed by Roy Del Ruth and starring Bebe Daniels and Ricardo Cortez. Based on Dashiell Hammett's novel of the same name, this adaptation is one of the earliest cinematic renditions of the iconic detective story.
Set in the gritty underworld of San Francisco, the film revolves around private detective Sam Spade, portrayed by Ricardo Cortez, who becomes embroiled in a complex web of deception and intrigue surrounding the search for a priceless statuette, the Maltese Falcon.
Bebe Daniels co-stars as Ruth Wonderly, a mysterious and alluring femme fatale who seeks Spade's help in locating her missing sister. However, as Spade delves deeper into the case, he realizes that Ruth is not all she appears to be, and he soon finds himself entangled in a dangerous game of betrayal and murder.
